The Mark of a Real Boy

Posted on June 30th, 2008.

So I knew it was bound to happen one day with three boys and an XL boy in the house.  And yesterday morning as we were getting ready for church it did.  Ethan “Parker” Jones became a real boy.  He got his first black eye.  The sad thing is it was given by his younger brother (not exactly something you want to tell all of your buddies).  Actually it was all on accident.  Ayden tends to be the clumsy one that always accidentally injures people (I swore he broke my nose once when I was pregnant with Griffin).  I’m not sure what they were doing but somehow as they were playing with some cars on the floor the back of Ayden’s head pounded Parker in the eye.  Here is the picture about 30 seconds after the hit.

It was really really puffy.  Parker of course was very upset with Ayden for hurting him (even if it was on accident).  His exact words were, “I don’t like Ayden.  Everyone knows he has the hardest head in this whole family!”  I couldn’t help but laugh.  I do think Ayden’s head might be made of steel because somehow he always hurts others with it and it doesn’t hurt him.  Interesting!  Parker didn’t want to go to church because he was afraid everyone would stare at him.  Of course we told him how cool it is to have a black eye and that every real boy gets at least one.

Well, that’s the story of Ethan “Parker” Jones becoming a real boy.
