If you're going to sideswipe a car. . .

Posted on July 2nd, 2008.

The motto I have chosen for today (written by myself) is, “If you are going to sideswipe a parked car make sure it is an expensive one.”  I am one of the safest drivers I know (according to police records and the fact that I can talk on my cell phone while putting on my lipstick and steering with my knee).  I have NEVER gotten a ticket and in fact I have NEVER even been pulled over.  I’ve never been in a wreck or had any sort of automobile altercation. . . until today.  While driving three of my co-workers to lunch I attempted to park my father-in-laws Buick LeSabre (that’s another story in and of itself. . .I mean do I really look like a LeSabre kind of girl?) and apparently didn’t clear the car parked next to me.  I stopped mid-turn to see if I should back up but was certain I had cleared it so I did what any other normal driver would do and floored it to finish my “perfect whip” into the parking spot.  At this moment everything began to go in slow motion as I heard a loud noise and saw the front end of my car sideswiping the BLACK CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE beside me.  Yes, I didn’t just hit a Ford, Chevrolet, or Toyota.  No, I hit a freakin Corvette!!  Well, if I’m going to do something I’ve got to do it big!  Anyway, all of my co-workers had awful looks on their faces and sat frozen in the LeSabre.  Here is a picture of the damage that I took with my cell phone:

Luckily, it didn’t bash in the side like it sounded but it did scratch it pretty good.  And since it’s a Corvette most owners are pretty particular about their “baby”.  I felt like such a moron!  So, I whipped (I should stop whipping since that’s what got me in this predicament in the first place) out my notepad and left a note apologizing for scratching their BLACK CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE and gave them my phone number.  A lady called me a few hours later and she was very nice about the incident.  I gave her my insurance information and told her I didn’t mind driving a scratched car so if she’d rather not have it fixed we could just trade cars.
