London Calling
Posted on October 4th, 2008.As most of the world now knows we had a sonogram yesterday and found out we are having a girl. While I am still in shock and disbelief (and live in fear that a male part could show up on the next sonogram) I am so excited and have already begun my “extreme makeover nursery edition” preparations! Bless Big Daddy’s heart as he is being so patient and letting me talk about all my ideas ALL the time. He even contributes his ideas too! Anyway, so backing up I thought I’d tell you a few highlights from our doctor’s visit in which we took all three boys with us.
First of all let me say that this was a “first” letting the boys go with us so they had no idea what to expect. I did go over with them many times that we would be going to use a “special camera” to look inside my tummy to see the baby. I wanted to make it clear that we would not be coming home with the baby as they think I am every time I go to the doctor. Thankfully, they were very well behaved and were just so excited to find out if it was a brother or a sister that they could hardly stand it. We got back into the sonogram room and were waiting for the doctor to come in. Everyone was cool and then Ayden began to panic and say he wanted to leave now. He had his terrified look and voice and was insisting upon leaving. I tried to calm him and then he told us the real reason he was “freaking out.” He said he didn’t want to watch them cut my tummy open. Apparently he thought they were going to cut my tummy open and take the baby out to take its picture and then put it back in. After I assured him that this would NOT be happening today he decided he wanted to stay. This was followed by a discussion of blood and guts by all three brothers. Where do they get this stuff from? Boys!!
The doctor came in and we began the sonogram. The boys had already told him they wanted a sister so he of course started at the baby’s head and worked his way down to further increase our anticipation! He showed us the face and Ayden commented that it looked like a boy’s head. Then the baby moved and we got a great shot of the baby’s footprint. Parker said it definitely looked like a girl’s foot. Bless this baby’s heart! Anyway, we finally got the announcement that it was a girl and Parker and Ayden jumped for joy. Griffin immediately shouted “I don’t want a sister!” Dr. White is so nice and told him to keep holding out for a brother! Uh, no! Thankfully, he has now changed his mind and decided he’ll take a sister. I sent Bill and the boys out to the car as I was finishing up talking to the doctor and they walked out of the sonogram room and announced to everyone in the hall (nurses, doctors, pharmaceutical reps, etc.) that they are having a SISTER! They were so excited!
Bill is also super excited but also nervous about raising a daughter and trying to protect her from this world. He has already told me that he is going to have to get her some mace, a taser, and teach her to shoot a gun. I told him that we could have the first five year old to come to Kindergarten with her concealed handgun license! Bless his big eagle heart!! I can’t wait for our little girl to have that special father/daughter bond with him like I did with my Dad. My Dad still called me “Cute-See-Girl” even when I was 29!
And finally, the next big question that everyone wants to know. . . have you picked a name? First let me say, that yes we have picked a name! We told the boys what it is today and Parker’s response was, “What? Why can’t she have a human’s name?” He wanted us to name her every girl’s name in his class. We graciously declined! As with all of our children, this name has no special meaning (i.e. family name, etc.). We just like it. We hope you do too but if you don’t please don’t tell us!
So, joining us this February will be. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . “London Kate Jones”.
Back to internet research of girlie things, crib bedding, nursery design, hair bows (I did hear that Bill told some people at church tonight that she would not be wearing hair bows. Sadly for him, HE IS QUITE MISTAKEN!), etc.!
P.S. Bill made up the title of this post. He said it was a song and that everyone else would have heard of it. Not me. I’m not musical and just learned who U2 was when we started dating (he almost broke up with me for not knowing)!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the name.
Love the name! Kate is my Ella’s middle name:)
Not that you need my opinion, but I love the name! I do know two girls named London and think it’s super fun!
By the way, if you want to learn to make your own bows let me know and I’ll email you some links… it’s pretty easy and buying them is an expensive addiction! Instead I have a TON of ribbon (and flowers, I love flowers too)!
LOVE the name, PRECIOUS!!!
Love the name, love U2, love you…..it’s a win all the way around!
