Orphan No More
Posted on January 21st, 2012.Late last night, around 11pm our time, our daughter Eliana found out that she is an orphan no more. She found out she has a family that loves her and wants her more than words can express. And she even got some pictures of her new family. That’d be us!
She has a sweet friend that was adopted a little over a year ago living here in the U.S. and I was able to connect with her Mom last weekend over the phone. They are the ones that contacted the advocates back at the end of November to try and help get Eliana a family. If they hadn’t spoken up I can say with 99.9% certainty that Eliana would have never had a family. This sweet friend has been able to keep in contact with Eliana through instant messaging every week for the last year. So for us there was no one else in the world who we wanted to give our daughter this important news than her sweet friend.
We were all waiting around all Friday evening to see if Eliana would get on the computer and notice her friend was messaging her. Finally, just when I was about to go to bed I got a text from her friend’s Mom that said “Are you still up? She’s online!!!!” Of course I was WIDE awake then! While Eliana’s friend instant messaged her I got the play by play via text from her Mom. She barely got the news out that she had a family and Eliana asked her to please call her! She was so surprised and excited and once they got on the phone together there was lots of teenage girl type squealing.
I had written a short note to her from Bill and I that her friend translated and read to her. I also gave her a few important questions to ask her like “what’s your favorite color” and “what do you want to do when you grow up.” Oh and not to forget the most important question, “what size shoe do you wear?” Momma’s got some shoe shopping to do!
My favorite part was when her friend’s Mom texted me while the girls were talking and said “She has a very sweet voice!!!!” I felt like I was there listening. Almost. Thank you Lord we will get to hear her sweet voice in person very soon!! I’m not sure I could take waiting any longer!
It was one of the most special (two hour) moments we have ever experienced. I really can’t even find the words to fully express what I feel right now. We are overwhelmed with God’s love for His children. We pray you are too.

I am over her in across the USA crying. I don’t know you personally Kelli, I don’t know this little girl but for some reason this is the sweetest adoption story I’ve ever heard and watch unfold, even above my own (I am a birthmother to a now 7 year old in an open adoption). God is working in so many lives here and showing his merciful power, thank you for sharing it with us!
AmaZing. I’m so grateful for our God who does not leave us alone, and has a perfect plan. Thrilled for you guys and inspired by your story.
I’m so overwhelmed with emotions: joy and gratitude are at the top. How amazing a story that is unfolding for this little daughter of the King that tangibly shows us how our Father wishes no one to be an orphan, physically nor spiritually. I’m so excited for Eliana and the whole Jones family!
OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!! Fabulous news! Can’t wait to see her beautiful face! We’re cheering for you guys and are SO super excited for your family!
Wonderful news.
Every night at dinner, my children pray with excitement for your family and this precious girl! And now, to read this, brought a cheer of joy and tears! He is awesome!!! God bless your beautiful family as it grows again. We can’t wait to see Eliana in her new home!! Seriously, Kelli, we all felt an urgency for her but you got up and made it happen (with a little help from Jesus…haha!). Way to go Jesus, way to go Jones family!!
Yesterday I opened this right after my heart broke over some things happening with our Lilli. I left it open all night. It speaks to me of how ridiculously great our God’s love is for His children, like you said. It reminds me that He cares for our children even when we can’t. He arranges lives for them. And gives them a hope and a future. I AM SO REJOICING WITH YOU!!!
When I shared your story on my blog I prayed that God’s glory would be shown and boy how it has shown through this!!! I am crying tears of joy, excitement, and amazement!!! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!!!! (There is just not enough room for the exclamation points I want to put on here!)
I love this story, Kelli! It gave me goosebumps and I can’t even imagine what was going through her mind when she was told this news from her best friend- and what a best friend she is! So exciting!
Eliana’s room is just perfect. All the little touches makes it that much more special. You have just amazed me with all that you do. And I know you give God all the credit. You and Bill are amazing people. I am glad to call you my cousin. Your dad would be so proud of you (which I know he is). The pictures are fabulous.
